Cameroon’s Oil Output to Drop in 2025

by Amelia

Cameroon’s oil production is projected to fall to 2.9 million tons in 2025, marking its lowest output since at least 2023, according to the latest report from the Monetary Policy Committee of the Bank of Central African States (BEAC), published in March 2025. This anticipated drop represents a year-on-year decline of 300,000 tons, down from 3.2 million tons in 2024.

The data points to a steady downward trend in Cameroon’s oil sector, which saw production slip from 3.3 million tons in 2023 to 3.2 million tons in 2024. The decline places Cameroon among the few oil-producing nations in the Central African Economic and Monetary Community (CEMAC) facing significant reductions in output.

Equatorial Guinea is also expected to register a sharp fall in production, with output set to drop from 3.9 million tons in 2024 to 3.6 million tons in 2025. In contrast, the Republic of the Congo is projected to boost its oil production by 200,000 tons, reaching 13.3 million tons in 2025. Gabon will experience a more modest decline of 200,000 tons, going from 11.6 million tons to 11.4 million tons. Chad’s oil output is forecast to remain steady at 7.6 million tons.

Hydrocarbons—comprising oil and natural gas—remain the cornerstone of export revenue for CEMAC’s five oil-producing nations: Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, Congo, Gabon, and Chad. Excluding the Central African Republic, these countries rely heavily on oil income, which constitutes between 20% and more than 80% of their national revenues.
